“From the moment we arrived to the most amazing views in an area of outstanding beauty, to the moment we left, we thoroughly enjoyed several days without the distractions of every day. we had a real connection with nature and the wild. St Cuthberts Way is a great walk and get a pass to drive through College Valley… truly amazing. So much to explore and a perfect place to relax and listen to nature. Eildon is lovely and a real pleasure to have met her and enjoyed her kind hospitality. A perfect and blessed experience and adventure.”

“This is the perfect place for anyone looking to take a break. The valley is absolutely GORGEOUS and you can’t go wrong taking a walk around. WiFi/phone service is available only on select rooms so you’ll definitely be able to unplug totally. Breakfast was great and the house and garden is just beautiful.”

“If I had to draw a picture of paradise it would very much look like Hethpool house and the lovely landscape of Northumberland. the two trees standing in the field like two eternal lovers, the rounded hills surround you, and welcome you for a walk. Resting in front of the fireplace and being served. What more do you need?”

“Absolutely charming! A wonderful characterful house so different than the new and modern. It’s a joy to experience a place that is truly someone’s home. I love the ‘antique bathroom’, the knockers on all the bedroom doors, the lovely old furniture, don’t change anything about this quirky and interesting place!”
Fran from Dorset 25/7/17

“It was a very stormy day yesterday, but you received us with the fire already burning! Your dinner was absolutely great. We started with the cheese souflle [I can recommend that to anyone] and the wild duck was delicious. The fact that you could tell us when, where and by whom it was shot , must be unique.”
Bernard & Rebecca, Amsterdam

What a place! From the minute we arrived it was heaven. The jumping fish my favourite and the wonderful country side. The shower was a complete joy, topped off by the incredible food, just bliss.”

Beautiful location in a beautiful part of the world, sitting up in bed wuth a cup of tea in the morning, contemplating the day’s walking and looking out of the windows at the hills-perfect!”

“It took special friends from Australia to discover Hethpool and now we do not want to leave. We felt relaxed within minutes and totally at home. Eildon’s food was superb, and we would loved to kidnap the dogs. A very special place.”
Simon & Daphne Harbidge

“The food that Eildon prepares is so good, it’s worth the stay alone, but the truth us, everything about this place is fantastic, especially the warm reception and the fact that nothing seems to be too much trouble. The countryside ain’t bad either! Look forward to coming again soon with our newborn.”

“Staying at Hethpool House was one of the most magical experiences we have ever had. The wild unspoilt beauty of Northumbria, a stunning setting for a beautiful home. Feather pillows, log fires, superb food, fresh flowers, amazing hospitality and peace by the shed load!! Eildon and Martin were the most warm, witty and friendly hosts and they were so generous in the sharing of their home and knowledge of the area. It was a real privilege to stay at Hethpool and we will certainly return. If you are looking for something very special….look no further!!”
Geraldine and Mike Maclure, Cheshire – 2nd March 2012

“We forget how many times we have stayed here at least 4/5 now, but it begins to feel like a home-coming. This is such a precious place, amongst these extraordinary hills, with the stream cascading below, and such hosts. Such a welcome. Such exquisite food our thanks for all this..”
Paul & Sally Barker, London

“A truly enchanting place with excellent hospitality, delicious food and superb room. Probably the best “b&b” of all on our many travels – St Cuthbert would have loved it!”
John & Maggie Pierce, Wiltshire – 12th July 2014

“A beautiful place to walk into and stay. Loved the house and the old walled garden. I wish we could stay longer but we are only halfway through the St.Cuthbert’s Way. I hope to return.”
Anne & Tim, Canberra ,Australia – 30th September

“We, like so many others, stayed with Eildon and Martin for only 1 night on our way to Edinburgh. We arrived in the late afternoon and were warmly greeted and shown to our rooms, then, off to the sitting room for the best cuppa ever made in front of a roaring log fire. Eildon made us feel right at home in this true b&b. The countryside is beautiful and the roads narrow, but well worth the trip. Very, very highly recommended and should we ever venture back to the UK, this will be one place we will stay for longer than 1 night.”
Tim & Anne,Australia – 30th September

“The real up side of this B&B are the hosts. Eildon is an amazing lady. After the first evening of getting to know her she makes you feel like one of the family and has a great sense of humour. Nothing seemed too much trouble for her, each evening she would ask what was required for breakfast and I believe you could ask for just about anything and she would oblige! One of the other guests asked for scrambled egg with chopped up smoked salmon mixed in and that’s exactly what he got. Martin was also great at advising on where to visit and where to eat.”
Mike & Christine, Suffolk – 10th August 2014

“I stayed with Eildon and Martin for 3 lovely days in early June which were blessed with lovely weather, but even if it would have been otherwise, the location, and the hosts would have made the vacation days truly memorable. As it was, with weather added in, it was a simply perfect holiday!

The house is lovely, and the food scrumptious…but for me, it is the dogs, who were so pleasant to be around really made the B&B feel like a home and not some cold hotel! Not much more to add other than the stay was wonderful, and I’d recommend Hethpool to my friends…and I hope to be lucky enough to be able to go back again!”
Mike from Shanghai – 6th June 2014

“Designed in the Arts & Crafts style, so anyone with Staying with Eildon was a joy. The house is stunning. It was built in the 1920s and is an eye for 20th Century rural architecture will find this building truly fascinating. The grounds of the house are gorgeous and set in a remote, beautiful valley. Eildon cooks fantastic food and there is always a bottle of great wine in her sellar. Finally, they have three lovely dogs who will happily curl up in front of the log fire late into the evening. Highly recommended.”
Daniel from Somerset – 6th June 2014

“Eildon runs a lovely B&B in a remote and beautiful location in north-east England. She was welcoming, friendly and helpful throughout and cooked us a fantastic breakfast. Highly recommended!”
